What is an Authorised Prescriber?
What is an Authorised Prescriber?
An Authorised Prescriber (AP) is a medical practitioner who is approved by the TGA (Therapeutic Goods Administration) to prescribe unapproved therapeutic goods, such as medicinal cannabis, to patients under their care.
Who Can Apply?

To be eligible, you must:
- Hold general or specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Demonstrate training and expertise relevant to the condition and product.
- Be able to monitor patient outcomes and determine treatment needs.
PGY2 doctors with general registration are eligible to apply, provided they can demonstrate relevant expertise or complete additional training.

Recommended Training Course
Details:
- Format: Online, self-paced
- Duration: Approx. 6–10 hours
- Cost: ~$200 AUD
- Provider: Australian & New Zealand College of Cannabinoid Practitioners
- Outcome: Certificate to support your TGA application for Authorised Prescriber status.
We recommend a two step process. Firstly, for the basics we recommend the ANZCCP Authorised Prescriber Course:

Application Pathways
There are two TGA application options:
1. Established History of Use Pathway
- No ethics approval required
- Quicker processing
- Suitable for most medicinal cannabis products
2. Standard Pathway
- Requires HREC or specialist college endorsement
- Suitable for less common or experimental treatments
All Doctors who sign up with The Happy Clinic (minimum 5 hours per week) will receive an advanced course for prescribing Doctors, usually $995 for free from Cannabis Psychedelics. Details will be given upon request/ working with us.
